The history of the forklift dates back to 1917 when Clark Material Handling Company developed the Tructractor, the first internal combustion-powered industrial truck, initially intended for internal use to transport materials within their factory. This innovation marked the beginning of the modern forklift industry. Shortly after, in 1923, Yale & Towne Manufacturing introduced the first electric truck with lifting capabilities, setting the stage for the forklifts we recognize today. These early developments were instrumental in revolutionizing material handling processes, increasing efficiency in warehouses and factories, and paving the way for the advanced, versatile forklifts used across industries today.
