MEWPs shall not operate in wind speed conditions beyond the maximum allowed by the manufacturer.

Wind speeds are found in the operator’s manual or on the serial # placard on the machine itself.

Know what your wind speed is for where you are working, weather Canada could be one windspeed, but you could be working in a wind tunnel and your wind speed could be triple what theirs is. Remember it is the gusts that are what you need to know. The gusts will get you if you don’t watch out.

Commonly specified maximum wind speed for the operation of many EWP’s are 40 kmph/25 mph (Beaufort Scale 6-strong breeze) High wind speeds may be created at the corners of large buildings. Do not operate the machine in strong or gusty winds.

Wind speed may be 50% greater at 20M (65.6″) above ground.

Be sure to identify your worksite wind speed allowance policy before operating.
